eventually deteriorate / fail due to heat etc. A stainless steel line will protect the rubber from outseat heat and last longer. Similar to the how coolant line eventually fail. I have seen rubber lines split, get brittle, leak, etc. on a lot of cars at United Auto Sales that come in for turbo jobs / oil leaks, etc. It's a good idea - overkill in some eyes - but a good idea. With how old these cars are no and the high mileage and the fact that Z owners are holding on to them - I think all the rubber lines in a Z should be steel braided. But then again, I am obsessive compulsive with a tad bit of paranoia.
